The Right to Acquire Scheme

The Right to Acquire enables eligible Housing Association tenants to purchase their current rented home at a discount.

To be eligible, tenants are required to have held a public sector tenancy for a certain length of time and the property which they wish to purchase needs to have been acquired after the 1st April 1997 and with Welsh Assembly Government funding. There are various other restrictions which apply - these are set by the Welsh Assembly Government and may change in the future.

The discount is a flat rate of 25% of the open market value of the property and the maximum discount available is £16,000. The discount applies only to the Housing Association property in which you currently live in and cannot be transferred.

If you are a current tenant of Hafod and you would like to know whether you are eligible to purchase your rented home please telephone our Home Ownership officer Andrew Goss on 029 20675828 or email andrewg@hafod.orq.uk quoting ‘Right to Acquire scheme'.

If you are a tenant of another Housing Association you should speak to your local housing officer who will advise you as to whether or not you will be eligible under the terms of the scheme.
