Vale Community Mediation Services

Born from the Vale Housing Federation in 2003, Vale Community Mediation Services was created in response to the increasing demand for quality mediation services in the Vale of Glamorgan. VCMS promotes and supports mediation through information, advice, awareness raising, practical help, workshops and training days. VCMS works in partnership with a number of agencies including South Wales Police for referrals.

Rhydyfelin Neighbourhood Crime Watch Scheme

The Rhydyfelin Neighbourhood Crime Watch Scheme was established in 2004 and was the first scheme to be set up in the area. The group was successful in drawing down funding for 3 CCTV cameras and signage and the Rhydyfelin Community Office provided an ideal location for the recording equipment. More recently, the group has been researching the feasibility of (1) adding a further camera to the current system to ensure full coverage of the estate, (2) upgrading the system to improve the quality of the footage captured to further assist the Police with their enquiries.

Fir Tree Drive Tenants and Residents Association, Quakers Yard, Treharris

Community members in Fir Tree Drive have been working in partnership with Hafod's Housing Team and the Community Police to make a positive difference on their estate. Community intelligence received during the weekly Housing Surgeries has resulted in the introduction of a ‘Sensitive Lettings Policy' and a zero tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour with CCTV covering trouble hot-spots. In recognition of their hard work the group has won a ‘Taking a Stand' award and Merthyr Tydfil's ‘Outstanding Volunteering' award.
