Our local Tenants and Residents Group has fought hard over many years to secure its own much needed community resource. With the support of Hafod's Community Focus Unit, and following a successful bid to the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, two porta cabins were finally sited on the estate. Nearly 5 years has passed since then and the community has seen a marked decrease in anti-social behaviour and youth annoyance and a significant increase in tenants' satisfaction. Tenant volunteers not only manage the community resource on a daily basis but run the local youth club four times a week.
This community project has been so successful that the group is currently working towards replacing the existing structure with a 2 storey eco-friendly brick building.
In Rhydyfelin we have supported the Communities First Programme by converting one of our 2 bedroom flats into a local community office. The office provides a base not only for Hafod staff, but also for key service providers including the Community Police, Crime Watch Co-ordinator, Communities First Sub Groups and Shelter Cymru. The timetable of activities is constantly evolving to match the needs of our tenants and the local community.
