Skills for Regeneration

Working in partnership with Rhondda Housing Association we have secured funding from Wales Council for Voluntary Action under its European funded ‘Skills for Regeneration' programme to appoint a Community Development Apprentice. Michelle Llewellyn joined our Community Focus Unit in January 2007 for a two-year work placement which includes accredited training and mentoring support and an opportunity to work in 4 community first areas in Rhondda Cynon Taff and Torfaen CBC.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for me to move from being an active volunteer into full time employment"
Michelle Llewellyn, Community Development Apprentice

St Mellons Community Creche

Since it first opened its doors in September 2002, Hafod has provided staff time and expertise as well as financial support to this registered charity. Indeed Hafod's Community Initiatives Coordinator has been the Chair of this charity for the last 5 years. The project enables parents with preschool children to access local learning and training courses whilst their children are well look after in the nearby purpose built crèche.

"This project has it all ...... it gets parents out of the house and lets them learn whilst their children socialise with others, gain in confidence, and get a ‘head start' in their schooling." Sally Cockerill, Hafod's Community Initiatives Coordinator and Chair of the St Mellons Community Crèche
