Youth Forum & Youth Incentive Scheme
Young people often get negative press and are less likely to be recognised for their positive contribution to communities. In July we decided it would be great to bring a number of young people from a number of different communities together. We identified 12 young people that were either actively volunteering in their communities, or previous winners of our Youth Incentive Scheme, to join us at the Bowlplex in Nantgarw. We were interested in the young people's ideas on setting up a Youth Action Panel, and the different ways that they would like to be involved. After a very productive meeting the young people were treated to a bite to eat and a game of bowls.
Feedback from the young people themselves was very positive too. Paul from St Mellons said ‘Amazing but we need longer meetings. I can't wait to meet more people.' Anthony from Rhydyfelin spoke for the majority when he said ‘It was fun and I really enjoyed the bowling. I can't wait for the next meeting!'
We reward young people for the positive work they do in their community, however big or small we want to hear their stories.
Whether it be helping an elderly or disabled neighbour or relative. It could be a young person who has achieved something outstanding in sport or gained a qualification against all odds or simply helping out in local play schemes or clubs.
Do you know a young person who you think should be recognised for their efforts?
We want to here about any youths between the ages of 11-25yrs who are positive role models within their community. All nominations to be submitted by the end of November 2010
