What is a Retirement Scheme?

Retirement Housing Schemes aim to provide convenient and comfortable unfurnished accommodation within a secure environment. As a resident, you can come and go as you please and have the reassurance of knowing that help is always close at hand whenever you need it. Retirement Schemes can offer you a range of services to help you live independently with the added security of having someone to call on in emergencies.

A Retirement Housing Scheme is not an ‘Old People's Home' as many people think. It is a collection of individual homes, each of which can be kept as private as the resident wishes.

Our scheme in Craig Yr Hendre, George Street, Bedlinog, Merthyr Tydfil was opened in 1990. The scheme is in a rural location amid the hills of the Darran Valley, seven miles from Merthyr Tydfil town centre.

About the area

Merthyr Tydfil is one of the most historically fascinating and beautiful regions of Wales. It is ideally placed between the Brecon Beacons National Park and Cardiff the Welsh Capital.

With a fifth of the County Borough lying within the Brecon Beacons National Park, Merthyr Tydfil boasts some dramatic and breathtaking scenery. As one of the towns forming the Heads of the Valleys, Merthyr Tydfil is rich in culture, landscape and scenery

Once the Iron Capital of the world, Merthyr Tydfil breathes life into its history with Cyfartha Castle Museum and Art Gallery, Joseph Parry's Cottage and Brecon Mountain Railway.

Living in Craig yr Hendre

Residents can be assured of complete independence at Craig yr Hendre, with each flat having its own front door and all of our first floor flats are fitted with stair lifts. Flats are rented on an assured tenancy.

The scheme benefits from the services of a Scheme Manager (who acts as a good neighbour). The Scheme Manager is on site Monday - Friday between the hours of 9.00am - 1.00pm

The scheme consists of one or two bedroom self contained flats (ground floor or first floor)

14 x One Bedroom Flats
6 x Two Bedroom Flats

Each flat contains a fully functional Kitchen, separate living area, bedroom and bathroom.
