£4.2m refurbishment transforms disused Barry offices into affordable homes

As the finishing touches are made to Provincial House in Barry, we welcomed colleagues from the Vale of Glamorgan Council to preview the former offices ahead of excited tenants moving in.

This is our very first office refurbishment project which has breathed new life into the former commercial space on Kendrick Road to provide 32 high quality and affordable homes for rent for local people.

The one and two bedroom apartments have been developed in partnership with the Vale of Glamorgan Council via funding from Welsh Government grant and private finance. The scheme was developed by Kestral Construction.

We currently own and manage over 700 homes in the Vale of Glamorgan. Fatoma Yarwood, Neighbourhood Coach said: We’re delighted to have converted this unused office space into much needed homes for the area. It’s location provides tenants with easy access to lots of local amenities. In addition to being great for them, it will also be a boost for the local economy as many are looking forward to being so close to Barry’s main shopping street.”

Over the past five years we have invested over £20m and provided over 200 homes in the Vale. In addition to this we plan to complete a further 100 new homes in the area over the next 18 months.

Cllr Margaret Wilkinson, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet member for Housing and Building Services, said: “This is an excellent project that will offer modern, good quality homes to people that need them most.

“Not only will this be of huge benefit for those looking for this type of affordable housing, but it will also bring a previously vacant building back into use.”
