Black Lives Matter

Given the pandemic, it’s easy to forget there are other pressing global issues. Sadly there are and none more in the last week than the heightened racial tensions in the United States of America. I am sure you will all have seen the distressing television images of George Floyd who fell victim to unnecessary and brutal force inflicted by police officers. Whilst the focus is on America, and quite rightly, racism is a pernicious force in many societies including the United Kingdom. There can be no room for complacency. And it’s not always manifested through physical violence or name calling.

I thought it noteworthy that over the weekend Cardiff citizens took part in public demonstration supporting #BlackLivesMatter along with London, Birmingham, Manchester and Nottingham. Well done Cardiff!

Any form of discrimination, race, gender, disability, sexuality has no place in society. As an organisation we have a zero tolerance towards any form of discrimination and if discovered would have no hesitation applying the highest sanctions available.

At times when you desperately seek leadership I leave you with the words of one of the two 2020 Presidential candidates. “American history is not a fairytale with a guaranteed happy ending. The battle for the soul of this nation has been a constant tug of war between ideal we are created equally & harsh reality of racism. Both are part of the American character” (Joe Biden).
