Cupcakes, treats and lots of fundraising fun were the top of the list at our fifth World’s Biggest Macmillan coffee morning at Golau Caredig Extra Care scheme in Barry, which was jointly hosted with Welsh Assembly Member, Jane Hutt AM and Action for Elders.
The get-together which also signified Golau Caredig’s fifth year since opening, raised a magnificent £700 for Macmillan Cancer Support with the help of family, friends and local residents who took part in a raffle and picked up many goodies. There were handmade cards, jewellery and cuddly toys available from a variety of stalls which included Wales Air Ambulance, Guide Dogs Cymru and more.
The highlight of the morning for many was receiving cuddles from Sid the dog, who has visited the scheme many times before with Guide Dogs Cymru. We also welcomed the Mayor of Barry, Cllr Margaret Wilkinson, who spent time getting to know the fury friend and guests.
Miles Utting, Scheme Manager at the scheme, said: “The coffee morning is always a great way for everyone to come together and raise money for a great cause, which is why we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to also celebrate the fact we turned five years old this month!”
