Hafod residents Chrissy and Ernie Fair celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary this month.
The couple, both age 90, enjoyed a party arranged by Wendy, their housing scheme manager, and were delighted to receive a very special card from the Queen and Prince Phillip, who are also celebrating 70 years of marriage this year.
Ernie told us:
‘We met at a dance on a blind date and I knew from the first time I saw her that I was going to marry her and spend the rest of my life with her’
Chrissy went to the dance and agreed to meet Ernie so that her friend could go with her boyfriend, ‘ the rest is history’‘ said Chrissy.
They married age 20 and are still as much in love 70 years later. They have two children, four grandchildren and are a very close and loving family. They both agreed that the secret to their long marriage is working hard and loving each other and their family.
The couple moved to our Saebren complex in Trehebet, Rhondda Cynon Taf in 2010. It has 10 flats for people over 55 and we provide lunch and a light tea each day and scheme manager Wendy is on hand three days a week.
Ernie said: “It’s the best move we ever made. We love living here, we feel safe and we have lots of friends. Our family don’t have to worry about us because we have everything we need here. We have a wonderful manager who makes sure we have a lovely flat and no problems with anything. The food is lovey here and we have both put on weight since moving here. I tell all my friends that they need to move here.”
We wish Ernie and Chrissy many more years of happiness together.
