We’re delighted to announce that our IT apprentice, Laura, has successfully completed her two-year apprenticeship programme as well as various additional qualifications.
Laura joined Hafod in 2011 as a Kitchen Domestic in our Arthur Jenkins Care Home before transferring to the IT department as an apprentice in 2018.
While working in our IT team, Laura has gained experience in a range of first line IT support including new starter IT inductions, configuring computers, iPads and mobile phones along with setting up new user accounts.
Laura completed her studies at Cardiff and Vale College and now holds a BTEC Level 3 in Professional Competence for IT and Telecoms. Always keen to further herself, Laura also completed a number of optional stand alone modules in her own time. This means she also has also achieved a number of Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) qualifications.
Laura told us what it means to her to complete her apprenticeship at Hafod. She said: “Having the hands on experience as well as college learning has helped launch my career in IT. I have been able to earn a living while gaining several qualifications. I love that I am constantly learning new things daily, and even more so now that we are working from home and using new technology.
“Due to lockdown, I haven’t been able to celebrate with my college friend as we’d planned so I celebrated at home in the sunshine surrounded by lovely cards and gifts from family, friends and colleagues.
“I am extremely grateful to Hafod to now have a full time role and I hope to continue learning. Technology is constantly evolving and I am excited to be a part of that.”
In her new position as IT Administrative Assistant she will continue to develop her skills and provide valuable first line IT support across the organisation.
Laura’s manager. Richard Armstrong, said: “I’m really proud of Laura, her hard work and commitment has paid off and she is an asset to the team and Hafod.
“Right from the start, Laura picked up her role very quickly, absorbing skills and knowledge very well. Nothing is too much trouble for Laura, her work ethic for IT support it fantastic, she will always goes the extra mile ensuring our users come first. Well done, Laura.”
