A granddaughter and grandmother from Caerphilly have been reunited after two years apart thanks to the introduction of a new minibus at our Tŷ Penrhos Care Home.
Hayley, age 36, moved from her home in Pontygwaith to our Tŷ Penrhos Care Home in 2017 following a heart attack which left her blind and with a long-term brain injury. The home provides care for over 80 residents including adults with physical disabilities.
Hayley has limited mobility and uses a wheelchair which makes it difficult for her to access transport. As a result she has been unable to visit her Gran, Mair, age 80, who lives 10 miles away at Ty Porth Care Home and who also has limited mobility.
The pair were reunited recently thanks to the introduction of a new fully accessible minibus at Tŷ Penrhos and Hayley made the trip to Porth accompanied by two of our carers.
Natalie Bolderson, Nurse Care Assistant at our home said: “Hayley was excited all morning about going to visit and made sure we picked up some of her Gran’s favourite flowers on the way. She told me that she wouldn’t cry as she didn’t want to upset her Gran but as soon as she got through the door the tears were flowing, it was so bittersweet.”
Hayley and her family were over the moon. Hayley said: “I loved it and loved meeting the staff at Ty Porth, I know them from Pontygwaith where I used to live.”
Hayley’s Dad, Lee said: “They both enjoyed it, it was lovely to see, it was very emotional”. Gran, Mair, said: “It was a lovely surprise.”
