Mary-Gwen celebrates 100th birthday
Mary-Gwen Davies, a resident of our Ty Penrhos Care Home in Caerphilly, celebrated her 100th birthday on Wednesday 3rd January surrounded by fellow residents as well as staff and carers at the home.
Staff at Ty Penrhos organised the special get together which included a buffet, gifts and a huge birthday cake from Mary-Gwen’s family. There was also live entertainment from musical duo Omega 2 which had residents singing and clapping along.
A special part of Mary-Gwen’s birthday has been to receive a telegram from the Queen as well as letters from the First Minister of Wales and the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions to acknowledge the significant milestone.
Mary-Gwen, originally from the Blackwood area, was a well-known face to the local community in her role as Post Mistress. Since moving to Ty Penrhos over three years ago she has assumed a similar role as a stalwart of the home and is often heard singing and chatting with other residents. She particularly enjoys singing along to Delilah when doing armchair Zumba.
Geraint Morgan, manager at Ty Penrhos, told us: “Mary-Gwen is such character and is very special to everyone here so we are delighted to be able to celebrate her special birthday with her at Ty Penrhos.
“She is a remarkable lady who is always happy and enjoys singing along with the vocal artists that visit us.
“She also has a sweet tooth so her birthday cake was a real treat!”
