Residents at our Tŷ Gwyn Care Home in Cwmbran received a very generous donation of £5,000 prior to lockdown which has gone a long way to help the home purchase a giant tablet device.
The home were very fortunate to trial the device for an extra two weeks after the success of the first morning which saw the residents really enjoying using it. Even the staff were talking about the positive effect that it had, especially with some residents who aren’t always interested in daily activities.
The device has many activities including some which are specially designed for those living with dementia which help to stimulate the brain as well as provide relaxation. Residents use it to play a range of puzzles, jigsaws and interactive games, which often create a talking point too.
Through a wide range of apps residents can take part in exercise, arts and crafts activities and other personal interests. It also has a driving simulator where you can drive through towns and cities across the UK to help residents feel nostalgic and much more.
After seeing the smiles on residents’ faces and hearing lots of laughter when using the device, the extremely kind benefactor wanted to help it to become a permanent addition to Tŷ Gwyn.
Home Manager, Tracey Webb, said: “We’re so grateful to have received the donation to help us purchase the device. It really helps to motivate residents and it’s lovely to see them enjoying the various activities. So much so, they’re still talking about it after they finish using it.
“The popularity of the device has been a real benefit during the current circumstances as it offers a range of extra activities which staff can use with residents and tailor to their personal interests and needs.”
