An emotional service of remembrance was held at our Woodcroft Care Home in Cardiff recently which saw over 80 people attend to pay tribute.
The commemoration organised in partnership with Change Step Wales began the morning service with hymns and prayers, whilst surrounded by the homes decor of poppy displays and dressed up mannequins.
Residents and colleagues were joined by special guests the Royal British Legion’s standard bearers, members of the Royal Welsh, Change Step Wales veterans and a buglar who played ‘the last post.’ During this time, everyone took a moment to reflect on the lives lost whilst poppies were dropped over the balcony by our residents.
Many commented on how moving the service honouring the fallen soldiers was and how it felt so personal to so many. Elaine Mather, Home Manager at Woodcroft said:
“It was an amazing and emotional morning for our residents, especially for those who have a connection to the military. The service was really appreciated by all who came along and I would really like to thank them for getting involved.”
Liam Spillane, Peer Mentor at Change Step who helped organise the service, said: “It has been wonderful to work with the staff at Woodcroft, and to bring the support we can offer older veterans and their families directly into their homes in this way.”
