Apprenticeships are only for young people
Anyone aged 16 and above can apply, including career changers and career returners.
We’re excited to announce that we will be launching our new apprenticeship scheme in January 2027!
Our apprenticeships will offer a paid job, real experience and nationally recognised qualifications. They’re designed for people who want to earn and learn, develop confidence and build skills that last a lifetime.
There will be a range of opportunities across our business from care and support to housing and head office roles. Each opportunity will be shaped around our values and our commitment to supporting people and communities across Wales.
The first opportunities will be shared in the summer so if you’re interested in finding out more, register your details below.
Nicola, a project officer in our Development team, has completed a MSc in Construction Project Management course at the University of South Wales achieving a distinction.
Accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Association for Project Management (APM), the course is practice-based and research focused.
Nicola has worked at Hafod for 14 years and has been studying part-time for two years alongside her day-job which involves project management of our new development schemes including Section 106, refurbishments and new build projects.
Funded by Hafod as part of Nicola’s career development aspirations, the tuition has included traditional lectures and tutorials with problem-based learning through workshops.
Nicola’s progress has been assessed via a combination of coursework, written reports, project work, presentations, examination, and a 15,000-word dissertation about the barriers to the delivery of affordable housing.
When Nicola was working on her dissertation, she interviewed members of the Development team, external housing developers and consultants to gather their experience on delivering affordable housing. Nicola was very grateful for everyone’s time and invaluable input.
Nicola, said: “The qualification has given me a strong foundation into construction project management which I have been able to apply to my current role, and will help me in my journey to becoming a project manager.
“Thank you to Hafod for the opportunity and support to further progress my career.”
Lorita began her career in care in December 2013, joining Hafod as a Care Assistant at Gwynfa. Her dedication and passion soon saw her progress to the role of Senior Care Assistant.
During her time at Gwynfa and with the encouragement of her manager, Helen Buhagiar, Lorita embraced opportunities for professional development, successfully completing both her QCF Level 5 and ILM Level 4 qualifications. Her dedication and passion for caring quickly shone through and in 2018 she moved to Ty Penrhos, joined the first nursing assistant programme, starting her first step into nursing.
In 2021, Lorita took the next big step in her career, beginning her Nursing Degree with the Open University. Over the four-year course, she balanced academic study with hands-on experience, working a 12-hour shift each week at Ty Penrhos, alongside 16 hours of placement and 8 hours of study time. This total of 24 hours weekly commitment was supported by Hafod, ensuring Lorita had the flexibility, time and support balance her shifts, study days and placements.
Her placements took her across hospital, community, and residential care settings, giving her a broad range of skills and experiences that will benefit both colleagues and residents.
Lorita’s dedication, growth, and success are a testament to her commitment to caring for others and a shining example of the career development opportunities available at Hafod.
Marc Pullen-James, Director of Care, said: “Lorita’s achievement is a fantastic example of what’s possible when passion, hard work and the right support come together.
“We are incredibly proud to celebrate Lorita in achieving a First-Class Honours Degree in Nursing, a truly outstanding accomplishment. Lorita’s dedication to both her studies and the people we support is an inspiration to us all.
“This achievement reflects not only Lorita’s personal commitment and resilience, but also the value we place on learning and development at Hafod.
“It’s been a privilege to support Lorita on her journey, and we’re excited to see all she will go onto achieve as Lorita continues to grow within our organisation.”

The project provides participants from an ethnically diverse background with experience, training, and access to employment opportunities with the long-term goal of gaining meaningful careers within, and outside, the housing sector.

When Fozia started her placement, she told us: “I wanted to return to work after taking time out to raise my family.
“Housing is such an important part of people’s lives and I want to do a job which I can be passionate about. This opportunity will challenge me and I’m looking forward to speaking to a variety of different people to help solve their problems.”
At the end of her placement, Fozia was successful in
applying for a full time position with Hafod in our
