Eight new affordable homes have officially been handed over to local housing provider Hafod in Ely, Cardiff.
This new development reinforces Hafod’s commitment to providing homes that meet the needs of people in Wales, homes that are affordable, high quality and designed to support people’s lives now and into the future.
The development, named Cwrt Dderwen Saith, was built by Cardo for Hafod in partnership with Cardiff Council, and funded through the Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant. It transforms a previously unused infill site into a vibrant new development, offering high-quality homes close to local amenities.
The scheme comprises four one-bedroom and four two-bedroom flats, all designed to meet high environmental standards. Each home is EPC A-rated, fully electric, and includes solar PV panels, contributing to a low-carbon future and helping residents’ benefit from improved energy efficiency.
Nicola Meredith, Project Manager at Hafod, said:
“Cwrt Dderwen Saith reflects Hafod’s wider vision for placemaking, creating homes and communities where people are proud to live. By working with partners to regenerate underused land we are delivering homes that support wellbeing and address the acute need for social housing in Wales.
“At Hafod, we believe that by developing high-quality sustainable homes, we can invest for a better future and support communities to thrive.”
James Garland, Contracts Manager at Cardo, said:
“We’re proud to have worked with Hafod and Cardiff Council to bring this development to life. Transforming an underused site into high-quality, sustainable homes is exactly the kind of project we’re passionate about.
“These EPC A-rated, fully electric homes reflect a shared commitment to building for the future, creating places that are energy efficient, affordable, and designed around the wellbeing of the community. It’s been a pleasure delivering this scheme, and we look forward to seeing residents make these homes their own.”
Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities at Cardiff Council, Cllr Lynda Thorne, said:
“It’s fantastic to see this scheme completed and more affordable homes being delivered for the people in Cardiff. Housing Associations like Hafod play a vital role in working with us to develop high-quality, sustainable homes that meet the needs of our communities.
“By partnering together, we can transform underused spaces and help ensure more residents have access to safe, energy-efficient, and affordable homes in our city.”
