We’re proud to share that our Fir Tree Drive Community Allotments – A Fresh New Start! project was shortlisted in the Environment category at the Travis Perkins Better Together Social Value Awards 2026.
Held at Silverstone, the awards celebrate organisations and projects across the UK that create meaningful social value for their communities. Being shortlisted places the Fir Tree Drive project among some of the most impactful environmental initiatives in the country.
Transforming a space, strengthening a community
The Fir Tree Drive allotments have been completely transformed from an overgrown, unsafe area into a vibrant and welcoming community space. The project now supports sustainable food growing, reduces food miles, encourages biodiversity and provides surplus produce to the Fir Tree Drive Community Food Pantry.
The space has also become a hub for local residents, offering opportunities to learn new skills, build confidence and take part in activities such as community litter-picks and environmental workshops.
This achievement has been driven by the passion and commitment of Sinead Vatsaloo, Community Coach and Neighbourhood Coach, whose dedication helped bring the allotments back to life and create a space the community can be proud of.

Representing Hafod on the national stage
Two colleagues attended the awards ceremony at Silverstone to represent Hafod and reflecting on the experience, Rory said:
“It was great to represent Hafod at the Travis Perkins Better Together Social Value Awards, where the Fir Tree Drive Community Allotments – A Fresh New Start! was shortlisted in the Environment category. We didn’t win this time, but it was brilliant to see social value work recognised and to be part of an inspiring event at Silverstone.”
A fantastic achievement
While the project didn’t take home the award this year, being shortlisted at a national level is a fantastic recognition of the hard work of colleagues, partners and the Fir Tree Drive community. It highlights the impact that creative, people‑focused environmental projects can have on wellbeing, sustainability and local pride.
We’re excited to continue building on this work and creating even more opportunities for our customers and communities to thrive.
