We’re proud to share some fantastic news, once again, we were the most successful housing association at the TPAS Cymru Good Practice Awards 2026!
Held on Wednesday 17 June at the Cardiff Marriott Hotel, the awards recognised the very best in tenant engagement and partnership working across Wales.
We had been shortlisted for four awards and took home four awards, a huge achievement which reflects the dedication, creativity and collaboration of colleagues and tenants alike. Most importantly, it showcases how we continue to put our customers at the heart of everything we do.
Communicating with Tenants & Residents – 3rd Place for Hafod Connect
The first award of the evening was for communication with tenants and our refreshed Hafod Connect secured third place after its successful makeover.
Thanks to customer feedback, improvements have led to big increase in open and click rates, demonstrating the value of listening to customers nd tailoring how we communicate to better meet their needs.
Communications Officer Sian Price said,
“It’s been great to see the increased engagement with Connect since the refresh of its design. We will continue to aim to improve and listen to customer feedback.”
Tenant of the Year – Claire Ryan- Winner
The next award was a standout and highly emotional moment of the evening as Claire Ryan was crowned Tenant of the Year.
Claire has shown exceptional commitment and compassion through her work at the Barry Warm Space, based at Barry Rugby Club. After a previous service ended two years ago, Claire took the initiative to start something new, beginning with very limited resources, and today supports many people each week, providing food, drinks, and a vital space for connection and conversation.
Claire has also brought together residents, veterans and community organisations, strengthening local relationships and inspiring people to support one another.
Claire was over the moon and said,
“I am completely overwhelmed and I can’t believe it. It means so much. Thank you so much for nominating me, it’s just wonderful.”
To celebrate Claire’s incredible achievement, Hafod will be sponsoring an upcoming lunch at the Warm Space, a chance for everyone to come together and recognise her inspiring work.
Tenants Influencing Decision Making – Not just heard, but acted on: The impact of Hafod’s Scrutiny Panel – Winner
Our Scrutiny Panel won the category of Tenants Influencing Decision Making.
Tenants and long-time Scrutiny Panel members Sean O’Sullivan and Sally Thomas, proudly received the award alongside Board member Moawia Bin Sufyan.
This recognition highlights the real impact of tenant scrutiny in shaping our organisation at the highest level, ensuring resident voices directly influence key decisions.
Sally said,
“I just love being a part of the Scrutiny Panel, it’s very rewarding being able to make a difference and it’s wonderful to be recognised in this way.”
Resident Engagement in Safe & Healthy Homes – Safe and Healthy Homes Initiative – 3rd Place
We also took home third place for our Safe and Healthy Homes Initiative ran by the Assets and Decarbonisation Team.
This transformative project, delivered through the Optimised Retrofit Programme (ORP), has seen the installation of 900 Aico HomeLINK Solutions in customers’ homes.
By combining innovative environmental sensors with a user-friendly resident app, the initiative represents a shift from reactive repairs to proactive resident empowerment.
Director of Assets Sarah Hancock, who received the award with colleagues said,
“We are so proud of this award and all the fantastic work this team has achieved and will continue to achieve.”
