We know that energy bills remain an important part of household costs. At Hafod, looking after your home isn’t just about carrying out repairs. We are also working to make our homes warmer, more energy efficient and more affordable to run.

What does this mean for you?

As we invest in our homes, we look for opportunities to improve energy efficiency. Depending on your home, improvements could include things such as:

  • Solar panels to generate electricity from your roof
  • Battery storage to help make better use of electricity generated by solar panels
  • Insulation improvements to help keep more heat inside your home
  • Better windows and doors where these need replacing
  • More efficient heating and hot-water systems
  • Smart technology and monitoring that can help us understand how homes are performing. 20% of our homes now have Aico environmental sensors installed to inform us when homes are cold, expensive to heat or at risk of damp and mould.

Not every home will need the same work. We use information about our homes to help us understand where investment can make the biggest difference.

Why are we doing this?

Improving the energy efficiency of our homes can help reduce the amount of energy needed to keep them warm and comfortable. That’s good for the environment, but importantly, it can also help households manage their energy use and running costs.

We are continuing to invest in our homes so they are safe, warm, comfortable and fit for the future.

Your part matters too

If we’ve installed new heating, solar panels or other energy-saving technology in your home, getting the best from it can sometimes take a little getting used to.

Please ask us if you’re unsure. We’d much rather help you understand how something works than have you worrying about your energy use.

And remember:

  • Don’t go cold to save money. If you’re struggling to afford to heat your home, please speak to us. Support may be available.
  • Tell us about damp, mould or condensation. If you’re concerned about your home, report it rather than simply putting up with it.
  • Report repairs early. Small problems with windows, doors, heating or ventilation can affect how comfortable your home feels.
  • Let us know how your home is performing. Your experience helps us understand where improvements may be needed.
