The Winter Fuel Payment is an annual payment to help you with heating costs during the colder months.
If you live in England or Wales, are over State Pension age, and your income is £35,000 a year or less, you will get a Winter Fuel Payment.
You do not need to do anything. The money will be paid to you automatically.
- Most people will get £200 per household
- If someone in the household is over 80, the payment will be £300
If your income is over the £35,000 limit, you may still get the payment, but HMRC will take it back later through the tax system.
Important: If you get a text message about Winter Fuel Payments, do not reply. It’s a scam. Real payments are made automatically – you don’t need to apply.
Make sure you don’t miss out!
There are hundreds of thousands of pensioners who are eligible for pension credit but are not getting it, and these people will miss out on the winter fuel payment too unless they make sure they are claiming what they are rightfully owed.
You can apply online to get pension credit and can start your application up to four months before you reach state pension age. You can also apply via phone through the pension credit claim line on 0800991234 or via textphone 08001690133.
