As part of our programme of decarbonisation works, we appointed Bell Group to fit solar panels across a number of our homes.

Bell has worked hard to make a positive impact beyond the construction programme, through a wide range of social value initiatives benefiting our customers and local communities.

Over recent months, Bell has supported care home residents, families, young people and community groups through activities designed to improve wellbeing and strengthen community.

At Brocastle Manor Care Home, Bell donated jigsaw puzzles to support cognitive stimulation, and donated refreshments for their summer party. They also delivered a series of ‘trip down memory lane’ sessions at Brocastle, as well as at Ty Cwm Extra Care Scheme and Picton Court Care Home. These interactive events used music, sensory activities, nostalgic photographs and familiar scents and tastes to encourage reminiscence.

At Fir Tree Drive Community Centre, Bell delivered creative activities for families and donated wildlife habitats, such as bug hotels and bird houses, to promote biodiversity and encourage residents to make greater use of shared outdoor spaces.

The contractor has also focused on supporting employment, education and skills development. This included delivering mock interview sessions for young people in Cardiff, donating materials to painting and decorating students at Cardiff and Vale College, and creating local employment opportunities through recruitment into its Fire Protection division.

Alongside this, Bell has supported environmental projects including community litter picks, volunteering at a community allotment to help stock a local food pantry and taking part in neighbourhood clean-up initiatives.

Together, these projects demonstrate the positive difference social value activities can make in our communities.

Sarah Hancock, Interim Director of Assets, said:

“As our decarbonisation partner, Bell Group has gone above and beyond to deliver meaningful social value within our communities. From supporting activities in our care homes, to helping young people develop employment skills and improving community spaces, we are grateful for Bell’s continued commitment to creating positive, lasting outcomes for our residents and communities.”
