Hafod and Hale have now officially entered into contract for the site located on Ffordd Y Mileniwm in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan.
The development will help to address the acute need for housing in Barry, providing 56 homes, including two, three, and four bed houses, one and two bed apartments, and an accessible bungalow.
Barry has the highest need for housing in the Vale of Glamorgan, and with Hafod currently providing over 700 homes in Barry, the Ffordd Y Mileniwm project is part of the housing providers long-term commitment to building the homes people need, homes that are healthy and eco-friendly.
The development will cost in the region of £14.5 million and has been part funded by Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant, with additional financing from Hafod as part of its commitment to investing for a better future. The development is expected to break ground in June 2025.
As well as providing much needed housing in the area, the development will deliver significant highways and footway improvements. This will include a pedestrian crossing at the Ffordd Y Mileniwm and Wimborne Road junction, as well as a new bus stop along Ffordd Y Mileniwm, increasing accessibility for residents.
Sara Brock, Development Manager at Hafod, said:
“At Hafod, we believe that a good home and strong community are crucial for well-being, so we focus on creating homes designed in harmony with people’s lives, homes that can provide a solid foundation for people to put down roots and be part of a vibrant community.
“We’re pleased to have entered into contract with Hale to start work on this vital development of social homes on Ffordd Y Mileniwm. With great access to amenities in a highly sustainable location, the homes will be built using a fabric first approach. These timber frame homes will be EPC A and all electric, making them more cost effective to run.
“It’s only right that everyone has a place to call home and by building more social homes in Barry, we’re providing high quality, affordable homes that enable people and communities to thrive.”
Geraint Thomas, Contracts Manager at Hale Group, said:
